Processing plant and open-pit operations at How Mine gold mine, Zimbabwe

Our Operations

Open-Pit & Underground Gold Mining

Refined over more than eight decades

How Mine is a producing gold operation that combines open-pit and underground mining across a 2,408-hectare mining area, 22 kilometres southeast of Bulawayo. Over more than eight decades we have refined our mining and processing methods to extract gold safely and efficiently, delivering reliable output through changing market cycles and generating dependable cash flow.

Located in Zimbabwe's South Province, the operation benefits from supportive regulatory frameworks, established road and power infrastructure, and proximity to Bulawayo's deep pool of mining skills and suppliers.

Mining Methods

Two complementary approaches

Open-Pit Mining

How Mine has developed surface operations that allow efficient extraction of near-surface ore, complementing deeper underground sources and supporting a steady feed to the processing plant.

Underground Mining

Underground mining accesses the deeper extensions of the orebody. Decades of development have established the shafts, levels and infrastructure needed to mine at depth safely and productively.

Processing

Consistent recovery, disciplined grade control

Ore from both open-pit and underground sources is treated at How Mine's on-site processing plant. Our focus is on consistent recovery, disciplined grade control and continuous improvement of plant performance.

A key growth initiative is our mill expansion and processing optimisation programme, designed to increase throughput and lift gold production over the next two to three years.

Growth & Upcoming Advancements

Scalable, sustainable output

How Mine is advancing a significant production increase over the next two to three years, supported by mill expansion and optimised processing capacity — complemented by the planned restart of our sister operations.

Mazowe Mine

A historic, high-grade underground gold operation with extensive underground access, grid power and processing facilities, providing a strong foundation for its planned restart.

Redwing Mine

A brownfield underground gold operation where dewatering is underway as part of the restart process, with proven reserves, exploration upside and established infrastructure.

Together with How Mine, these assets form the backbone of our regional growth strategy in Zimbabwe.

Operating Responsibly

Production and responsibility, hand in hand

As we expand, we remain committed to safe working practices, responsible environmental management of land, water and energy, and continuous investment in the skills of our workforce. Every tonne of ore we process is produced with safety and sustainability in mind.
